The story of the UN World Conferences on Women
Listen to the people who were there when history was made. Narrated by Padma Lakshmi, UNDP Goodwill Ambassador
“Because what happens when thousands of activists, allies, and feminist leaders come together for the future of our planet? Everything.”
In 1975, the United Nations hosted the First World Conference on Women in Mexico City—and a global movement was born. Across decades and continents, from Nairobi to Beijing, feminist activists, leaders, and allies built a movement, and with it, an ambitious global agenda for reproductive rights, equal access to economic resources, an end to violence against women and girls, and so much more. Now, 50 years later, the work is far from over. Listen as UNDP Goodwill Ambassador Padma Lakshmi narrates this short film about where we’ve been, and where we’re going.
